If you look after your boiler all year round, then not only will you increase its efficiency, but you can also help it last a lot longer. Below are some helpful tips to help your look after your boiler all year round!
Lag Your Pipes – The best time of year to lag your pipes is before the winter arrives. This may sound like a daunting task but don’t worry, most DIY shops sell ready made pipe lagging that simply just slip over your pipes and its cheap! Remember prevention is better than the cure!
Switch Your Boiler Off – During the warmer months you can turn your boiler off, this will also save you a bit of money. If you have a combi-boiler then all you need to do is switch your boiler onto hot water only. However, it is a good idea to turn your boiler on once a month for 15 minutes to help prevent any problems cropping up when winter arrives again.
Keep An Eye On The Pressure – If the pressure on your boiler is too low then it wont run properly. To check your boilers pressure is right you need to look at the dial on the front of your boiler, it should be between 1 and 1.5. You may need to speak to a plumber if your boiler keeps having High or low pressure.
Power Flush – Over time a build up of sludge can build up in your boiler system and as a result your boiler will be less efficient. If you call in a professional plumber, they can give your system a power flush. This will clear your pipes and radiators of the build up of dirt and debris, so it is working efficiently again. Doing this will not only increase your boilers life expectancy but it can also save you money.
